Candidates like Cornell West and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. are calling for a political revolution in America. There’s a very good reason for this.
The U.S. is no longer a democracy. We now have government … of the rich … by the rich … for the rich.
As Kennedy himself said:
“We need a revolution, I would say that — a peaceful revolution, and a revolution that brings us back to the values that have been robbed from us over the past 40 years, systematically, which I watched happen.“
What this means is obvious and URGENT! Everyday citizens are hurting, our economy is nearly bankrupt, opportunities are disappearing, the American Dream is dying a slow death. We have an election coming up. It may be the most important election in the history of our country!
Yes, dramatic change must go forward, and it does not just depend on who occupies the Oval Office. Biden is mostly continuing Trump’s policies, in some cases even doubling down. Republicans now control the House of Representatives. By the slimmest of margins, the Democrats control the Senate. But what gets done? Do we have universal health coverage? Has the minimum wage increased? Are we repairing our crumbling, Third World infrastructure? Is there any relief in sight for working people in the US? The Democrats are always pointing fingers at the Republicans, passing the buck and playing the blame game. But despite all the grandstanding and virtue signaling, what improvements do we see in the lives of everyday citizens? The simple, obvious and ugly truth is that most Democrats — Blue Dogs and establishment centrists — as are most Republicans, are in league with multinational corporations, Wall Street, the big investment banks, the military-industrial-security complex, and consistently…
VOTE AGAINST THE INTERESTS OF THE VAST MAJORITY OF AMERICAN CITIZENS!
Thus we continue to have widespread unemployment and underemployment; many citizens are working at far below a livable wage; solid, widely supported programs like Social Security and Medicare are under attack; millions of people don’t have access to good, affordable health care; the rich and powerful refuse to pay their fair share in taxes; our infrastructure is crumbling; our well-being and even our survival is increasingly under threat from climate change and endless war; big money continues to poison our electoral process and destroy our democracy; public education is in decline and college is becoming unaffordable for millions of young people.
These problems are not going to fix themselves. And as long as the vast majority of elected officials are owned lock-stock-and-barrel by a tiny clique of rich and powerful elite, Congress won’t fix them either!
WE NEED A CONGRESS WHICH TRULY REPRESENTS THE PEOPLE, starting with the coming election.
This is a monumental challenge but one on which the future of our democracy depends.
Out with the old . . . in with the new . . . November 2024!
